Nicola is a community organizer, leadership coach and fundraiser based in Lewiston, Maine. Over the last eight years, Nicola has worked to develop new organizing curriculum, train young organizers, and help build local organizing campaigns at the local, state and federal level. She currently serves as the Director of Strategy and Development at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, a non-profit committed to building community-led economies and more sustainable, resilient neighborhoods.
Nicola came to community organizing as a part of the Immigration Team at the Center for Community Change, working to pass federal immigration reform. Nicola helped to launch the country's largest cell-phone action network, and provided organizing support to campaigns across the country. She moved to Maine to dig into local and state level organizing, and lead the Maine League of Young Voters. There, she discovered her interest in organization building and leadership development. She joined the ILSR team in March to work on organizational growth and fund development. Nicola received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Swarthmore College. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network and the Board of The Treehouse Institute.
