Britney Whaley

Britney Whaley is an electoral strategist, organizer and trainer passionate about investing in leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to serving communities of color. She is currently a Principal at Wellstone Action where she works with frontline progressive organizations, candidates and campaign operatives to help them address representation gaps across progressive infrastructure, run winning electoral campaigns and achieve bold progressive policy outcomes. 
Britney started her career in electoral politics working on President Obama’s reelection campaign in Hampton Roads, VA and continued working in government and politics as Chief of Staff in the NYS Legislature and NYC Political Director for the Working Families Party. During her time in NYC, Britney worked closely with labor, community organizations and grassroots leaders to build a progressive candidate pipeline program and managed candidate training, vetting and endorsements for the WFP. As a co-founder of Why She Ran, a WFP-sponsored program that supports women who are interested in running for elected office or pursuing careers in politics, Britney worked with several women candidates, primarily women of color, to develop fundraising plans and create winning strategies for their campaigns.
Britney has also worked with national organizations on projects ranging from college access and affordability to creating a political landscape analysis used to inform efforts to build black political power in local communities across the United States. Organizations include the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women), the National Black Graduate Student Association (NBGSA) and the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL).
Britney is a proud alumna of Howard University, George Mason University and Women’s Campaign School at Yale. She was a 2015 New Leaders Council fellow and serves on the Board of Directors for Brooklyn Movement Center and Community Voices Heard. She is a native of Las Vegas, NV and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
