Movement Technology Trainings in 2018
At Wellstone, our Movement Technology program is about people and the connections between us -- not tech for tech’s sake.
In 2016, we began this body of work because we saw that technology was getting farther and farther away from the core components of what makes organizing so powerful: people. Our framework has evolved over the last two years, and we’re proud to report that organizers and communicators that come through our doors are creatively equipped with the skills to face an increasingly complicated world.
What’s unique about this program is our grounding principle: we believe that technology cannot exist in a world that is absent of race, class, gender, and power dynamics. So we train organizers to make strategic decisions around how to use technology and tools to reach communities where they are, ensure that data reflects the fullness of people and their experiences, and that leadership in this space CAN actually look and feel radically different than what some of us have been taught to believe.
This also means that the skills people learn are relevant as technology rapidly evolves.
So in 2018, we’re excited to take Movement Tech to the next level. We asked you what you wanted to see – and we listened. We’re rolling out changes to our core offerings – Digital Organizer School and Data & Analytics Camp – and we’re adding a new set of online trainings to support your learning.
Here’s what this means:
Digital Organizer School
April 23-26, 2018
Data & Analytics Camp
March 27-30, 2018
You’ll dive deep into four in-person training days. Then you’ll return to your home state and continue the training via an online training series, where trainers will provide one-on-one support as you integrate your learnings into your everyday life. You’ll also have a peer coach to build community with other Movement Technologists and help you stay accountable to your goals.
Online Training Series: Starting in May, we’ll offer a set of online training series in HTML, Python, VAN, and SQL for all the technologists who want to take their skills to the next level, or for those who might not be able to join the full camp experience.
We work from simple principles: you are the expert in your community and movement technologists are leaders. It’s why we’ve designed our trainings around skill-building and people-centered strategy, and with the hope that you’ll leave our trainings with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity around your own leadership.
We’re so excited to kick off 2018 with you. Apply to one of our upcoming trainings today.
