Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and the Sheila
Wellstone Institute would like to bring awareness to the $70 billion
dollar a year industry that includes sexual slavery or forced labor for
millions of women, children, and men.
Wedding dancers Jill and Kevin were featured on the Today Show this morning to talk about how they've used their 15 minutes of fame to support the Sheila Wellstone Institute.
We sometimes hesitate to donate because we don't think our gift will make a difference. Being
part of Jill and Kevin's big day, and their joyous celebration, showed
us that hundreds of people can be compelled to give by a powerful story.
We were honored to be joined by members of Congress and over 200 advocates, activists, students, and movement leaders to commemorate Sheila's work to end violence against women.
The movement to end domestic violence and sexual assault was founded on grassroots organizing. Now, advocates are returning to the roots of the movement and mobilizing the public.
Amnesty International's mission is to protect
human rights and inspire supporters whom are seeking a better world through
campaigns and international unity.
Not since Sheila Wellstone has a congressional spouse from Minnesota

new role to push a variety of causes.
After the St. Paul wedding dance video became an internet sensation last month, the couple turned their new-found fame into an opportunity to raise money and awareness to combat domestic violence.
Leveraging the surprising popularity of their 'wedding entrance dance' video, Jill and Kevin Heinz decided to link the video to the Sheila Wellstone Institute, dedicated to ending violence against women and children.

As progressives, we know we can find better leaders. We are looking for leaders who can restore hope, empower citizens, and be effective voices for change.
What does an Action Plan bring to your organizing? A good action plan gives your work focus, leverages your strengths, and lays out a blueprint for winning.
Public policy is the set of decisions that we make as a society about how we will care for one another, our communities and the land. Whether the issue is funding for schools, green jobs, worker's rights, or any other issue -- progressives win with citizen lobbying.
