Sheila Wellstone was a national champion, organizer, and advocate for ending domestic violence in our communities The Sheila Wellstone Institute continues her commitment to ensure that ending domestic and sexual violence is a national priority. Each year, the Sheila Wellstone Institute has continued Sheila's tradition of an annual event in the Capitol to draw public attention the the issue of domestic and sexual violence. We are excited for this year's celebration, which we hold in commemoration of 15 years of the landmark Violence Against Women Act - critical, lifesaving legislation that represented the first strong statement from the federal government that ending violence against women was a priority.
The event will also include the presentation of the Sheila Wellstone Award. The Sheila Wellstone Award recognizes individual activists, advocates and elected officials who share Sheila's dedication to safe and healthy homes and communities.
