Volunteer!
Across the country, tens of thousands of volunteers will be needed on Election Day and the days immediately preceding it to hit the streets and have face-to-face contact with voters. We know that close races are won on the ground. Major national efforts are underway to ensure that everyone who can vote, does vote!
In addition to mobilizing voters to exercise their rights, thousands of people will be volunteering their time to ensure the integrity of the election. This includes poll monitoring, assisting those with special barriers to voting and providing legal assistance to ensure the right to vote. Election Protection is a vitally important effort this year so that we do not repeat the problems of Florida and elsewhere in 2000.
Volunteering on Election Day is fun, exciting, and exhilarating - and large GOTV efforts need nearly unlimited numbers of volunteers. What better way to make a difference than to be able to say you personally got 10, 20, or 100 people to the polls who would otherwise not have voted in this election. Getting out the vote encourages active participation in our democracy - and gets you out of work for the day guilt-free!
There are several GOTV and Election Protection efforts, but a few national initiatives include:
- Wellstone Action! (Okay, it's not national, but we need 5,000 volunteers in MN - so come help us out!)
- America Votes
- electionMatch
- Election Protection
