Camp Wellstone Iowa

*** This Camp Wellstone is now full and registration has been closed ***

Demand for our Camp Wellstone training this year is higher than ever, which is heartening to us, and understandable given the hostile new administration and their attacks on our communities. We know how important this moment is for people to get the training and skills they need to make change in our country and in our communities, but we have always intentionally kept the size of the tracks at Camp Wellstone to a number that allows us to maximize learning and provide a rich and interactive training experience, and we are committed to upholding the quality and impact of the training we provide.
Camp Wellstone is open to anyone interested in gaining practical skills in progressive political action. During Camp Wellstone, we provide focus areas (tracks) based on your role in progressive organizing, each with a distinctive curriculum taught by some of the nation's leading experts in grassroots politics and organizing.

Camp Wellstone always takes place over the weekend. The schedule is:  2pm - 9pm Friday; 9am - 6:30pm Saturday; and 9am - 3:30pm Sunday.

At Camp, the sessions build upon each other, so you pick one track and stick with it throughout the weekend:

  • Grassroots Organizer Track: How to win on grassroots organizing issues
  • Working on a Campaign Track: How to win progressive campaigns as a campaign worker or volunteer
  • Being a Candidate Track: How to run and win a progressive campaign, for those running for office or considering running in the future

Training Location:

The training will be held at Grandview University in the Krumm Business Center: 1300 Morton Ave. Des Moines, IA 50316.
More specific details (room numbers, parking, etc.) will be sent in a final confirmation email to all registered participants about a week before the trianing.

What does it cost to attend Camp Wellstone?

The cost to attend is $450 per person (plus Eventbrite processing fee). This fee pays for three days of training, all your training materials, plus three meals (dinner Friday, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday). We believe in training everyone, regardless of income – so while the true cost of Camp Wellstone is actually much greater than $450 per person, we strive to keep our training affordable for progressive leaders at all income levels.  We also offer a limited number of need-based scholarship spots at each camp for a reduced cost of either $250 or $150.

Can I attend a Camp Wellstone in a different state?

Absolutely! Each Camp Wellstone is open to anyone who wants to attend, regardless of where you live, but please note that if you choose to travel from out of the area to attend this training you are responsible for ALL of your own travel, lodging and transportation plans. Wellstone Action is legally unable to assist, recommend or coordinate travel or lodging for participants. We'll tell you where to be and when, and provide you with the materials you'll need to get the most out of our training, but the rest is up to you!
