Prior to her years of being a tribal employee Dustina has always been involved in community organization, particularly with the youth. Dustina was employed as the research assistant/public relations/project manager of the Planning and Economic Development Department prior to serving as the Tribal Chairman's Assistant from 2007-2010.
Her community involvement includes serving as: 2006/2007 American Indians for Opportunity Ambassador,
2006-2009 Tiospa Zina Tribal School Board Member, SD Governor Scott Heidepriem NE Region Campaign Coordinator, US Representative Stephanie Herseth NE Region Campaign Coordinator, US Senator Tim Johnson NE Region Campaign Coordinator, and Presidential Barack Obama NE Region Campaign Coordinator
Her initial awareness with GOTNV (Get Out the Native Vote) began when the Tribal Chairman at that time directed her to tackle Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate's first GOTNV initiative. Not familiar with GOTNV she attended a Wellstone training in Leech Lake, Minnesota. At that time she was the research assistant/public relations and project manager for the Planning and Economic Development Department for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate. Since then she brought on with the new administration of 2007-2010 where she serves as the Tribal Chairman's Assistant. Using the doorways available in her new position she brought the much needed attention of GOTV to the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate and northeast South Dakota.
January 2010 will usher in the new administration where she will serve as the legislative aide to the Sisseton -Wahpeton Oyate.
Dustina is the mother of three children, Kendell 17, Micah 12 and Chauncey 6. Her plans in the future are to run for the South Dakota State Legislature.
