Adriana Barboza has been a trainer with Wellstone Action for almost 6 years, and is also our partnership manager. She was born in Jalisco, Mexico and grew up in the South Side of Chicago. Adriana began organizing while a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was involved with organizations such as Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), United States Students Association (USSA), Multi-Cultural Student Coalition (MCSC) and La Mujer Latina.
Shortly after graduating, Adriana completed a fellowship through the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials where she served in the D.C. office of Congressman Luis Gutierrez. She also worked as a high school teacher at Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center, a progressive independent high school in Colorado.
Adriana has worn many hats since then but most recently, she was the manager of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) phone bank center through the Reform Immigration for America (RIFA) Campaign. This was one of three national phone bank centers working for comprehensive immigration reform through RIFA. During the 2010 election cycle, Adriana ran the Community Voting Project's (CVP) non-partisan electoral work in the states of Colorado, Iowa, Ohio and North Carolina. The CVP is a civic engagement program of the Center for Community Change.
After running a successful civic engagement program with the Center for Community Change, Adriana now brings those skills to Wellstone Action returning as Senior Trainer. She is also attending law school at DePaul University (almost done!) and is the current Editor-in-Chief of the DePaul Journal for Social Justice.
