Kelly Lewis is an African American, dread-locked, lesbian golfer from Lafayette, Louisiana. She is an outspoken advocate for the communities she represents.
She is a Community Organizer for OutFront Minnesota and has extensive experience working for progressive causes. She worked for the Missouri Public Interest Group in 2005 in a campaign against a federal anti-environment initiative; she worked on a U.S. Senate campaign and previously worked on the 2004 presidential campaign. Kelly was also a delegate to a state political convention in 2008.
Kelly was a Fellow with Wellstone Action! and is currently a trainer for Campus Camp Wellstone in which she travels across the country to train college students about strategies in grassroots organizing and the importance of progressive politics and electing progressive leaders.
She is a board member of aMaze, a nonprofit organization of parents, educators, and other caring adults working to create safe and respectful communities by promoting the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to work together across differences, and is also a member of the Color CoordiNATION Steering Committee, working to bridge individuals with intersecting identities within communities of color who are GLBT-identified for community engagement, leadership development and wellness.
Kelly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in the summer of 2008 from the University of Minnesota.
Before attending the University of Minnesota she played two years of Collegiate golf at Carleton College and continues her love of the sport as a private golf instructor. In her spare time Kelly enjoys researching political satire and reading.
