While a student at the University of California-Santa Barbara, Bill was involved in student organizing on both the campus and statewide levels around higher education access, economic justice, and voting. Bill was introduced to organizing through a statewide campaign to redirect money from state prisons to educational outreach programs in California and continued to fight for educational access and affordability throughout the rest of his college career. He served on the Board of the University of California Student Association (UCSA) for two years before being elected president of this organization, which represents 210,000 students in the University of California system. In 2006, Bill played a central role in registering more than 6,000 Santa Barbara students to vote, more than one-third of the campus population. Bill now works for the United States Student Association, the nations oldest and largest student run organization, working to build power and win victories for students across the country.
