For over ten years, Palak Shah has steadfastly worked to advance ideals of equity and social justice. A passionate social change advocate, Palak has worked to enact sound public policy on our most pressing social dilemmas including poverty, incarceration, climate change, and public transportation. A trained community organizer, Palak has worked with leading social justice organizations all around the country including the Labor/Community Strategy Center, Bus Riders Union, Oakland Rising, Generation Five, and the Miami Workers’ Center. Palak was previously a staff researcher with Political Research Associates, a progressive think tank that studies the U.S. political Right and anti-democratic movements. At PRA, she published Defending Justice, an activist guide that analyzes the role of the Right in the criminal legal system. Palak also worked in the private sector as a management consultant in Accenture's strategy practice. In 1996, Palak co-founded VISIONS Worldwide, an internationally acclaimed NGO focused on the HIV/AIDS crisis in India.
A native of Miami, Florida, Palak is the daughter of immigrants from Gujarat, India. Palak holds a dual degree in Political Science and Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University. She will graduate in June 2009 from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, where she is the recipient of the prestigious Public Service Fellowship and Presidential Scholarship. She currently lives in Cambridge with her husband.
