Nevada Littlewolf was elected to the Virginia (MN) City Council in 2008. A member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, she is the only American Indian and the youngest woman serving in her city. In 2009, Nevada began diligently working to save and redesign the public city greenhouse that her fellow councilors and city staff proposed to close due to budget constraints. The greenhouse is now being revitalized with renewable energy sources and will serve as a revived community center, preserving a part of Virginia's historic legacy. She is an artist, a children's advocate and a leadership trainer who lives in Virginia, Minnesota, with her partner Todd and their two children Mika and Kira.
Nevada works as The White House Project's Rural Leadership Field Organizer. The White House Project is a national non-partisan organization that inspires, supports, and trains women for run for political office and to lead a political life. The White House Project not only works to see women run and win, but also engages them in voting, public policy, political campaigns, get out the vote efforts, and related political activities. Nevada's life experience provides insightful knowledge of rural communities along with a unique cultural perspective. She has helped adapt the Go Run political leadership training model to meet the specific needs of rural and tribal communities of women.
